My life has been a little crazy lately - working a full time job, being pregnant (oh you know, just creating a human), starting as a consultant for Beautycounter (if you know me, I'm extremely passionate about safer skincare and am VERY excited about this - check out my post on it here), coaching CrossFit, and being a wife and dog mom.
Point is, sometimes I struggle to get my veggies in. I know. How could I?!
Being pregnant though, I've become a little more aware of the necessity of keeping my body healthy and nourished, so on days when I feel like I'm slacking in the veggie department, this little smoothie goodness helps out. Obviously by no means am I saying this should be a substitute for just not eating vegetables. Continuing to try to get nutrient dense vegetables in every meal should be a goal for each of us. But what I am saying is this is a fantastic supplement!
A little note about Vital Proteins, the brand of collagen greens that I use in this smoothie. Vital Proteins is the only brand that I personally use and recommend to others to use for collagen. I have searched and have not found another company out there that has their commitment to making the highest standard of products from the most natural sources is something that I cherish and trust. They have three products that I absolutely love:
1) Unflavored, Grass Fed, Pasture-Raised Collagen Peptides - I add this to my coffee each morning. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is essential in the creation and regeneration of skin, nails, hair, bones, cartilage, tendons, and joints.
It is invaluable to your body (especially as we get older and the production of collagen in our body begins to slow down) and you will notice a difference through using it. Plus, it's a great way for me to get in a little extra protein in the morning!
2) Marine Collagen Beauty Greens - this goodness has marine collagen (from non-geo, wild caught red snapper), a variety of raw organic greens and probiotics that together have huge health and beauty benefits.
It is especially great for preventing onset signs of aging, because it improves skin’s moisture, smoothness, and overall revitalizes skin tone. AND my favorite part - one scoop of it equivalent to three daily servings of greens!
3) Grass Fed, Pasture Raised Beef Liver Pills - Anyone struggle with eating liver? Not only is it hard to source good liver but then you have to learn to how to cook it (and enjoy it)! It is one of nature's most potent nutrient-dense superfood's though and still important to find a way to supplement it for the massive health and skin benefits (it's extremely high in Vitamin A, B12, Folate, Riboflavin, Zinc, Copper, and Choline).
Taking it in a pill form is extremely helpful not only for convenience, but not having to deal with taste and Vital Proteins is the only brand that I trust as it is sourced form grass fed, pasture-raised cows (absolutely essential).
Now on to the recipe! This recipe is my own twist on the Cocoa Berry Smoothie on the Vital Proteins Blog.
