About 5 years ago my husband and I began the switch to eating healthier, more nutrient dense food. We soon learned the importance of reading the labels and ingredients on everything we were putting IN our bodies. In my journey I also learned that the skin is the largest organ of our bodies and absorbs a large part of what is put on it into the blood stream, and started realizing just how important it was to start evaluating what I was also putting ON my body!

Previously, I had assumed that because a product was a good brand and decently priced that it should be ok to use. I trusted that the FDA wouldn’t allow it be on the shelf if it wasn’t safe. Olay was my go-to for face lotion, St. Ives for face wash and body lotion, Neutrogena for sunscreen, etc. As soon I started looking into their ingredients I was shocked at how wrong my original assumptions were. Sadly enough, companies are allowed to use known toxins—ingredients that have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, and hormone disruption—without even disclosing these ingredients to us!

Those statistics astonished me! I started digging deeper and in my research came across helpful sources such as:

"Johnson & Johnson Is Just the Tip of the Toxic Iceberg" by Time.com

"Childhood Cancer: More Evidence Points to Chemical Exposure" by ewg.org

I sounds silly, but for the first time I actually made the connection that what we use on our bodies -- foundation to sunscreen to face wash and lotion -- does impact our bodies and our health!

I decided to do something about it and started to replace all of my skincare products with more natural alternatives. After a year of trying DIY and countless different companies/products, I found a company who cares about ingredients as much as I do and that creates the products that I need and that work - Beautycounter.

I highly recommend taking 3 minutes to watch this short video that describe the mission of Beautycounter as a company - to get safer products into the hands of everyone along with create change on a policy level here in the US, along with insight into how they’ve developed their safe but high performing products.

Beautycounter has banned more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals, all while delivering products that are safe and work amazingly. I deeply connect with Beautycounter's vision to get safe products into the hands of everyone and their works toward real change and tighter regulations in the US beauty industry. There is a huge need for this!

I encourage you to take a closer look at what's in your skin care and makeup products! You can do this by starting to read the labels and by looking up your your your current products on EWG's Skin Deep Database. It is my go-to resource for researching product safety and I love that every single Beautycounter product is rated between 1-2 on it. If your current products are scoring between 1-2, then that’s great! If not, then it might be time to consider switching to safer products.

Beautycounter’s “Never List” is the 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that they will never use as ingredients in their products. Below is a very simplified and helpful version of the key ingredients that are most harmful to make sure that your products don’t have.

Check out Beautycounter to learn more and start replacing your current products with high performing, cleaner, and safer products that you can trust (I love that they list every ingredient in each product).

Below are my favorites:

+ Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer - most days I put this on and I don't wear foundation - it gives me a glow and just a little coverage along with basic sun protection

+ Tint Skin Foundation - for a little more coverage but still natural look

+ Sunscreen - the ONLY non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen I've found that still applies like sunscreen

+ Charcoal cleansing face bar that I use nightly (cleanses my skin without drying it out)

+ Rejuvenating eye cream and night cream - this is their anti-aging line and I've been loving my skin using it! Smoothes and softens while increasing elasticity.

+ Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion - I use this lotion as my daily moisturizer. Not only do I love how well it hydrates, but it also works perfectly as a primer if I do want to put foundation on.

+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel - The peel uses a unique combination of both resurfacing acids and soothing acids that hydrate, replenish, and protect skin. This precise combination of acids optimizes performance while maintaining a pH level that doesn’t cause irritation.

Let me know if you have any questions and I am excited to have you join in on this journey with me!
